The Association for Research on forestry and forest products in Aquitania (ARBORA), was founded in 1984, with the aim of facilitating the cooperation between scientists and professionals in the forest-wood-paper chain, establishing links between education and research, disseminating results of research projects, participating in the elaboration of regional and national policies in the forest/wood area.The missions of the Association are thus missions of coordination, dissemination, technical support and education.

ARBORA gathers laboratories of the Universities Bordeaux I (physics and mathematics) and Bordeaux IV (economical sciences), laboratories from INRA, CNRS, in the field of forest sciences, materials, of social and economic sciences, as well as technical centers and representatives of the industry.

Some significant actions :
- the chart of sustainable management of forests in Aquitania initiated during the 1997 workshop, together with the PanEuropeanForestCertification (PEFC) process ;
- the project on long term storage of maritime pine logs set up in the area of Pierroton, after the 1999 storms ;
- the "EWP project" (Engineered Wood Products), a reflexion on the use of maritime pine products in building, associating designers and architects ;
- the PANECOL project, a partnership with the Aquitaine Region (PFBPA) : an original glued-laminated product made of by-products from the flooring industry.
